The wedding flag
The wedding flag was an object of prestige and pride and made for everyone in the village to know that young people in that house waving a flag were married.
Although called flag, usually it was not a real flag. On a pole is put colored ribbons veil, a crown of currants, basil, bells, flowers, fabrics, tassels and garlands of wheat ears (symbol of wealth). The flag is found only in Romanian regions that in past were parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The boy who wears the flag is flanked by two young girls. They expect the bride to come out of the house and dance after a ritual known by all.
In past, before the wedding it was dancing ” the snake”, now it just preserved the old idea of that dance.
